Cherry capital of the world, Traverse City, Michigan played host to the inaugural Ironman Traverse City 70.3 over the weekend. While a host of world class professionals were on site to battle it out, our big story comes from Milwaukee native, James Burke. Burke, who races in the 40-44 age group, not only dominated his category by nearly a 30 minute margin of victory, he crossed the line as first amateur overall just about 5 minutes in front of 2nd place! James’ time of 4:07:36 was also the 15th fastest split of the day including the strong Pro field. His next big race will be Ironman Chattanooga on September 29th.
Jordan Grande finished the Southern Fried 50/50 in 3rd place overall and 2nd female overall! Not only did they serve up a great 50 miler, they also had some tasty southern fried chicken on offer.
Colorado natives, Ellen Hart and Molly Smith took on the Boulder Sunset Tri where Molly finished first female overall and Ellen took the top step in her age group.
Chris Johnson has been gearing up for 70.3 Worlds in Nice, France and this weekend he raced in the push assist category at John Tanner Sprint. In addition to racing on the Suunto Team, Chris is a member of the Kyle Pease Foundation and races multiple times a year with his KP crew!
Not a weekend result but still something worth sharing - here is a great short video recapping Liz Canty’s Wester States adventure.
Liz is headed to Chamonix, France for the CCC 100K trail race, part of the world famous UTMB Festival.
