We Have a New National Champion and a FKT-er!
Roger Thompson grabbed the top step of the podium in the men’s 45-49 age group at the USAT Age Group Nationals in Cleveland, OH this past weekend. Roger had the 4th fastest swim and then matched his 3rd fastest bike with the 3rd fastest run to grab the overall victory. This is one more arrow in Roger’s quiver of victories this year, however…we do believe Roger had this race on his schedule and didn’t just “decide last minute” like all of the others this season. Either way, awesome work Roger! Also noteworthy, Roger’s time placed him as 2nd masters athlete overall.
Close behind Roger and in the same age group was Tim Hola who had the 2nd fastest swim in his age group and finished 3rd.
Samantha “Snuke B” Snukis had a great race finishing 4th in her age group and rounding out the podium was Chris Johnson with a 7th place in the 40-44 age group.
Now over to the mountains and way up in the sky.
Ralph Nurse took on the Leadville 100 mountain bike race, covering this iconic course in a time of 9 hours 27 minutes and 11 seconds. A crash at mile 15 and a little altitude sickness at mile 60 couldn’t keep him down as Nurse put his head down and plowed through to a very impressive finish!
Our own Alex Borsuk and partner Kaytlyn Gerbin became the first all-women team to complete the Mt. Rainier Infinity Loop! This self-supported adventure takes you up and down the summit of Mt. Rainier twice and once around the famous Wonderland Trail. Total distance of the loop is around 130 miles and covers 40,000+ of elevation gain. By completing the loop, they now hold the FKT in 4 days 4 hours and 20 minutes. Below is a great interview of the two on The Ginger Runner Live broadcast.
