Sam Long wins again and more great results from the weekend
Make that two for Sam Long!!
After clinching his first 70.3 win only two weeks ago in Chattanooga, Sam came out charging in Victoria, British Colombia. With a race best bike split AND run split, Sam grabbed his second 70.3 title. The victory came down to only a 36 second gap between Sam and and fellow Suunto sponsored athlete, Cody Beals of Canada.
Sam won’t have long to bask in this victory, he is racing Ironman Boulder this coming weekend in an attempt to keep the win streak alive and punch his ticket to Kona.
Kinsey Laine also raced in Victoria and finished 5th overall in a stacked women’s fiend which included 3-time Ironman World Champion, Mirinda Carefrae.
On the age group side of the race, Molly Smith grabbed 1st in the F35-39 age group and secured a slot to the 70.3 World Championships.
The Big Island of Hawaii hosts one of the last surviving half-Ironman qualifiers for the Ironman World Championships and in usual fashion it brought out a fast crowd.
In his first race back since his son was born, Derk De Korver crushed the M35-39 age group, taking the win and 4th overall. This result earned him a slot to Kona!
Also securing a slot to the Ironman World Champs was Jeff Mutchie who finished 3rd in the M45-49 age group.
Kelly Lambert also finished on the podium in 4th place (F35-39).
Lisa Roberts is taking on the tough European Tri scene. She recently competed against a stacked field at Challenge Samorin-Slovakia (The Championship) and found herself among the top-10. Next up is Challenge Denmark this coming weekend.
Our Speedster, Timothy Winslow headed out to Los Angeles for the Herbalife24 LA Tri where he finished 7th in the elite division.
Tim Hola took the top step at the Colorado Triathlon (olympic).
Jonnah Perkins, our resident ultra-farmer, headed out to Ithaca, NY for the Cayuga Trail 50 which was also the USATF Trail 50 Mile National Championships. Jonnah finished her day on the podium as 5th female overall in a time of 9 hours 17 minutes.
It was not just a weekend of veterans crushing, it was also a weekend for first timers! Both Deanna Newman and Beth Risdon ran their first 50K distance race.
Deanna came away with the victory at the Rockin Choccolocco 50K Trail. After the race she had this to say about her adventure, “it’s called doing something outside your comfort zone because it’s really darned uncomfortable”.
Beth took on the Golden Gate Dirty 30 in Black Hawk, CO where she also crushed it, finishing 4th in the 50+ category!
She did it! Denise Sauriol and her running partner, Michelle Lynn completed the epically awesome, Everest Marathon. Congrats on completing such an adventure, Denise.
